Dealing with Mold and Mildew
Most common household mold requires a humidity level of 30% RH to grow. Mold-Away desiccants are specifically designed for use in confined areas where moisture may contribute to the growth of household mold.
Mold-Away starts absorbing moisture at 5% RH and works to keep the humidity level below 30% RH. Each bag can usually last up to 4 months depending on your climate and the amount of moisture contained within the work area.

Product notes:

Can a Desiccant Help
There are more than 100,000 different types of Molds out there. The inhalation or handling of mold or mold spores can cause respiratory problems or allergic reactions in many individuals. You can help reduce this threat by utilizing a dehumidifying desiccant.
A desiccant is a dehydrating agent which attracts moisture from the atmosphere. It absorbs and holds particles of water to itself.
Inside the Tyvek Bag
MoldAway is designed for use in confined areas where moisture may accumulate and contribute to the growth of household molds. Mold can grow anywhere excessive moisture or water accumulates.
Picks up moisture at 5% RH and keeps the humidity level to less than 30% RH.

The Two Different Types of Desiccant
Type 1: Montmorillonite Clay
Montmorillonite Clay is a natural occurring adsorbent. This clay will successfully regenerate for repeated use at very low temperatures without substantial deterioration or swelling. Clay is inexpensive and highly effective within normal temperature and relative humidity ranges.
Type 2: Silica Gel
Silica Gel is a form of silica manufactured from sodium silicate and sulfuric acid. Like Clay, Silica Gel is non-hazardous and is capable of adsorbing 40% of its weight in water vapor at 100% humidity. Silica gel has a porous molecular structure that closely resembles a sponge, and has the highest capacity of any commercial desiccant for moisture adsorption.
A Suitable Location
To be most effective desiccants should be used within a closed/sealed moisture barrier or a rigid, sealed container. This allows the desiccant to absorb the trapped moisture vapor inside of the package. Products should be contained in a manner that does not allow additional water vapor within the enclosed environment. Often a Humidity Control Card is placed inside the package to show humidity levels and indicate when the desiccant will need replaced/recharged.
